O.A.K. Youth Theatre, as the name suggests, offers a unique, “One of A Kind” experience for students of all ages to engage in Musical Theatre activities. They are taught the three disciplines of Acting, Singing and Dancing which are vital to becoming a triple-threat performer.
Our workshops are led by industry professionals who have worked on stages locally as well as internationally. These productions include Sarafina! In Black and White, Charlotte’s Web, Ester, Dawid, die Musical, Dirty Dancing, Droomkind, West Side Story, Spamalot, Janice Honeyman’s Panto: Peter Pan, Sweeney Todd, Saturday Night Fever and Fantasy of Lights, Priscilla Queen of the Dessert, Funny Girl and Janice Honeyman’s Panto: Pinnochio. These workshops are held in the Pretoria/Centurion/Midrand area on Saturday mornings throughout the year. There is a Junior class from 9-10 and a Senior class from 10-12. Workshops kids showcase their work during October at our glamorous O.A.K. Awards.
Once a year, we stage a production during July at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria where we have open auditions for young aspiring artists. During the rehearsals for this show, artists are encouraged to train in acting, singing and dancing. Our mission is to stage a production of industry standard within the limits of working with a young, but talented cast.
Our artists are privileged to perform in professional theatres such as the UNISA Little Theatre and Atterbury Theatre.
We have staged and produced 4 productions since our start in 2015, Alice in Wonderland (2015), Thumbelina (2016), Cinderella (2017) and Beauty and the Beast (2018). We are very excited to announce that we will be having two productions in 2019, a new version of our very first show, Alice in Wonderland, to be staged at the Atterbury Theatre in June 2019 as well as a new production of Aladdin in July 2019.
